It started alright for Manchester United in the first 20 minutes of the game on Tuesday Night against the Wolves, They started off the match with attacking intent which lead to a goal in the 14th minute thanks to Mctominay’s clinical low drive from the outside the box to the bottom left corner, It would’ve been easily 0-2 just a couple of minutes later for United had Lingard put away the header from a delightful Lukaku’s cross which only ended being lacklustre effort from him.
From then on Manchester United started to lose their steam, Fred’s lack of control from De Gea’s Short pass caused Wolves to win the ball back and then in-form Raul Jiminez played the ball through to Diogo Jota who calmly slotted past helpless De Gea,Although one could argue it was Ashley Young’s mistake as well as he played Jota onside. Playing with three center backs with Young being one of them was not the smartest move made by Ole Solskjaer in his 3-5-2 formation.
It seemed like United didn’t learned anything from their previous defeat to Wolves couple of weeks ago in the FA Cup Quarterfinal match. Lack of urgency, rhythm and disoriented level of display by United Players were the common factors in both of the matches against the Wolves, And Young’s send off in the second half took away any chance of United nicking a winner later in the game. With only 10 United players on the field, Wolves forced an own goal in the 77th minute which ended any hopes of salvaging a point for Red Devils.
Wolves have been in phenomenal form this season under Nuno Espirito Santo especially at their home Molineux Stadium , they stuck to their guns and came off victorious in both of their games against United in the space of two weeks. Difference between Wolves and United in comparison in both of the matches was that Wolves finished the chances created by their Team, whereas Manchester United either didn’t create chances like in the FA Cup match and hardly finished their chances in the Premier League Match last Tuesday.
What would Ole Solskjaer do from here ? Manchester United can only afford to lose only 3 points from the possible 18 points from the remaining fixtures as said by their manager itself. Will they finish in the Top Four ? That remains to be seen.
